Before you switch software
[ ] Pick a cutoff date at a period end, and reconcile every account to it in the old file
[ ] Export the trial balance, the open customer invoices and supplier bills, and the payroll year-to-date figures
[ ] Decide how much history to bring across, and keep the rest readable in the old file
[ ] Keep the old subscription, or a readable export, for as long as the records have to be kept
[ ] Reconnect bank feeds and sales apps in the new file, and switch them off in the old one
[ ] Check the first month in the new file against the bank statement before you file anything from it
